A Guide to: Halo Engagement Rings

Higher Visions of a Halo?

A halo is a row (or multiple rows) of small, framing stones around a larger central stone. They're a great way to maximise the sparkle, character and carat weight of your dream ring.

However, with a varying range of shapes and styles that can each influence the overall look of your final piece, it can be hard to pinpoint which one is right for you. Read on as we explore the options.

The Cluster Halo

Inspired by classic cluster rings, which are usually designed with stones of similar sizes in order to create the illusion of one larger stone, the cluster halo has a truly romantic and old-time feel.

Featured here in a bespoke rendition of our Styx ring, the round diamonds of its halo are embellished with bubble prongs — creating an almost petal-like silhouette.

The Baguette

A definitive nod to the Art Deco era, a baguette cut halo can add sleek geometry to even the roundest of stones. Seen here with a Brilliant Round Cut central stone, the gold accents weaved throughout its halo add further graceful embellishment.

The Tapered Baguette

All-encompassing, the tapered baguette halo allows for a snug fit around your centre stone (usually a Brilliant Round Cut), becoming very much a delightful feature of your piece in its own right.

This particular ring features a halo of grey tapered baguette diamonds, contrasting eloquently with its central white diamond and warm gold band.

The Pop of Colour

In the same way that a few lashings of purple eyeshadow will make brown eyes pop, a halo of colour can not only add some personalised character to your ring, but also additional contrast to allow a central diamond or sapphire to truly shine.

Seen here is a round white diamond surrounded by a lucky ring of green emeralds.

The Custom Cut

For those seeking a truly customised experience, a hand-cut halo may be on your calling card.

As the name suggests, a custom halo is cut with great precision to fit perfectly around any stone. The craftsmanship of such a piece is immediately notable, and allows you much more freedom to play around with the finer details you may like to incorporate into your ring.

Exhibit A: prominent gold corners provide beautiful framing in this bespoke ring, made possible by its custom-cut diamond halo.

The Mix'n'match

Why have one thing when you can have it all?

Halos really have no limits, and can incorporate a multitude of stone cuts at once if desired.

This ring sets an example with not only a double halo of round white diamonds, but additional tapered baguette accents that bring the whole piece to a Hollywood Glamour level of luxury.

Can I add a halo to an existing ring?

It's not advisable to add a new halo to an existing ring, as the bonding of new structures to old can create weak points that are more prone to breakage.

The good news is that the entire remodelling of a ring to incorporate a halo is not only a wiser choice for the structural integrity of your piece but a more cost-effective one, too.

We are able to re-create the same design you know and love (or entirely re-imagined!) with the addition of a halo, and with a new and uniform structure that will ensure long-term durability.
